Museo Archeologico Regionale

The Museo Archeologico Regionale (MAR) in Aosta is a key tourist attraction dedicated to the archaeology of the ancient Roman city of Augusta Prætoria. Housed in a building constructed atop the Roman Porta Principalis Sinistra, the museum covers over 5,000 years of regional history. It opened in 2004 and was renovated in 2010, with origins tracing back to the Royal Museum of Antiquity established in 1929 under Pietro Barocelli.

Located at Piazza Roncas, 12, the museum offers a comprehensive look at the area’s past. Opening hours vary by season: from October to March, it is open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. During the warmer months from April to September, it is open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The museum is closed on December 25th and January 1st.

Access requires the "Aosta Archeological" cumulative ticket, which also grants entry to the MegaMuseo, Roman theatre, Forensic Cryptoporticus, and the Early Christian Church of San Lorenzo.
