Basilica di San Geminiano

The Basilica di San Geminiano is more commonly known as Modena Cathedral (Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta e San Geminiano). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a premier example of Romanesque architecture located at Corso Duomo, 41121 Modena, Italy. The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and Saint Geminianus, the patron saint of Modena.

General entry to the main nave is free, allowing visitors to appreciate the grandeur of the interior and the famous tympanum by Wiligelmo. A separate ticket costing €3.00 is required for the Presbytery and Sacristy route, which offers elevated views of the interior and the rose window. The cathedral is generally open daily from 07:00 to 19:00. However, Mondays may have a midday closure from 12:30 to 15:30 for maintenance. Access is restricted during religious services, such as Mass.

The special route for the Presbytery and Sacristy operates from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, and on Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00. Visitors should allow 45–60 minutes for the visit. The site is easily accessible, located just a 15-minute walk from Modena Train Station or reachable via Bus Lines 7 and 11. Parking is available at Parcheggio del Centro.
