The Museo Diocesano dβArte Sacra in Chioggia is a cultural complex located next to the Cathedral and Bishopβs Palace, established in the late 1990s. It offers a comprehensive look at the regionβs religious and maritime history through five distinct sections. The historical section documents the diocesan community from the 4th century to Vatican II, notably housing the worldβs most significant collection of medieval pilgrimage artifacts, including quadrangular badges, staff bells, and papal seals.
The iconographic section features works by renowned artists such as Paolo Veneziano and Giovanni Bellini. The liturgical section displays sacred vestments and vessels, while the section on popular piety exhibits ex-votos, nativity scenes, and confraternity insignia. A fifth section, added in 2021, showcases 19th- and 20th-century sacred art and ancient lagoon maritime instruments, highlighting Chioggiaβs unique connection to the water.
Opening hours vary by season. From September to May, the museum is open on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM by appointment, and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. From June to August, it is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM by appointment, and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
