Gardens of the Biennale

The Gardens of the Biennale, or Giardini della Biennale, are a 20-hectare artistic oasis located in the Castello district of Venice. This site serves as the central venue for the world-famous Venice Biennale, hosting nearly 30 national pavilions that showcase contemporary art from around the globe. The grounds feature heritage trees, tranquil pathways, and historic architecture, creating a unique blend of nature and culture.

During the exhibition season, which typically runs from April to November, entry is strictly ticketed and regulated. Approximately 90% of the gardens are gated, requiring a valid pass for access. Opening hours vary by month: from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM between April and September, and from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in October and November. Most Mondays are closed during this period. The site is wheelchair-accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors.

In the off-season, a small, unfenced public strip comprising about 10% of the gardens remains open and free for visitors. This allows travelers to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and green spaces even when the major exhibitions are not active. The location is easily accessible on foot from the Santa Lucia train station or by vaporetto. The experience combines art appreciation with relaxation, offering a quiet retreat from the bustling city center.
