Sassongher Mountain

Sassongher is a 2,665-meter (8,743 ft) summit in the Puez Group of the Dolomites, located in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park in the province of South Tyrol, Italy. It is situated approximately two kilometers north-northwest of the village of Corvara. The name derives from the Ladin language, where "Sass" means rock or stone and "ongher" is believed to mean long or big.

The mountain consists of Triassic dolomite rock and features an alpine climate characterized by long, cold winters and short, mild summers. The first ascent of the summit was made in 1900 by Joseph Kostner. As a natural landmark, Sassongher does not have opening hours or admission fees.
